Project Overview
Providing positive experience of taking an elevator without being nervous
The experience of taking an elevator is short but psychologically impactful.
Riding in a small space with others causes uncomfortable feelings for someone.
However, In mordern days, we need to take elevator more than fewl times a day.
we designed <Who’s trace?> to tackle this problem.
By recalling the experience of stepping on the white snow,
<Who’s trace?> will fill the time with expectations and aesthetic feelings instead of negative feelings.
My impacts
Throughout the project timeline, I led the design process and project management.
Design
Led the design of ux flow and interface design with creating user journey map, persona, low-fi and high-fi prototype, Image making and rendering through Midjourney and Keyshot.
Research & Testing
Conducted 5 user interviews, 5 usability feedback, usability test through making 1/10 size moke-up and doing scenario playing.
Communication
Offered challenging situation from personal experience, Managed project schedules, structured meeting agendas, and wrote summaries of meeting discussions to ensure that every teammates are on the same page.
Challenge
How can uncomfortable feeling inside an elevator be reduced?
Design Process
To tackle the problem, we followed a five-step UX design process framework. The process was not linear, we iterated the process to refine designs to meet users' needs.

Why many people feel nervous when taking elevator with strangers?
Through Desk research, User interview, Consensus map, Problem analysis, we could define three main reason of people feeling uncomfortable in elevator.
Defined Problem
1.Invasion of Personal Space
2.There’s Nothing to Watching or Doing
3.Distrust to Strangers
Objective
Design Objective
1.Make the elevator feel like a communal space.
2.Transform the elevator into an interesting space.
3.Create a positive vibe among strangers.
Solution
Who’s Trace? ; Elevator Footprint Displaying System
By connecting elevator’s weight recognition sensor with a screen and speaker, users' footprints are displayed on screen. The natural images and sounds at each step create a positive atmosphere, reducing discomfort around others.
As a result, others are no longer uncomfortable beings, but will be the object of curiosity. Furthermore, this can be the beginning of communication
Solution
1.Animal footprint will arouse curiosity to other people inside elevator
2.Visual, auditory interaction will be interesting
3.natural images and sound will hlep to be relaxed
Prototype
To see if the idea will work, we made the 1/10 sized- prototype and did Role playing.
After that, we drew user journey map and fine-tuned the user scenario.
Testing & Improvement
After doing 1st design, we asked feedback to 50 people and did word-clouding
Through feedback, We decided to make screen longer and delete weather widget.
